A Brief Introduction to Yangzhou High School

Our school has set up the first psychological consultancy centre of high school in Yangzhou. This psychological consultancy centre is supported by the school leaders. This centre is in the charge of a specialized teacher and assisted by many key teachers. The psychological consultancy centre spreads the psychological health knowledge to the students and improve their psychological quality by lecturing, class presentation, consultancy and person-to-person communication. Till now we have successfully helped some students with psychological problems to develop good attitude toward life and study.

 

3. Carry out the various campus activities to foster student-oriented idea

Our school has organized various class meeting assessment activities, which set honesty education and standardized behavior education as the theme, in order to build students’ upright character. The head-teachers make full use of every chance, including the morning meeting, class meeting, home visits, and use all sorts of educational forms to teach students about the social morality, family morality, campus culture and Internet morality.

Every two years campus cultural art festival is held in our school. During this festival, various activities are held, such as English speech contests, Chinese recitation contests, calligraphy exhibitions, English play performance, personal shows of talent, so on and so forth. All these activities help develop various interests and teamwork spirit of the students. Besides, we have a campus radio station and school TV broadcasting center, which is supervised by teachers and conducted by students themselves. There are different students’ clubs, such as the literary society called New Bud, Painting Club, Photographing Club, the stamp association, etc. These clubs help to form a cultivated, healthy campus atmosphere. As a result, students’ awareness of self-development is cultivated.

Our school holds some meaningful scientific activities, such as “think with your hands”, all these are aimed to lead and instruct students to form their ways if study, which consists of thinking by yourself, cooperation with others. We create these activities based on the facts: all students can take part in them, students can apply their theory gained to practice, and students can have an idea of creative thinking. During the process of the activity, students should keep to the rule: these steps (including choosing the topic, doing research and designing, presenting). Through all kinds of activities, the students in Yangzhou High School are full of youthfulness and energy and they are students of all-round abilities.

 

4. Careful administration to promote quality

Our school always bears these in our mind: the development of students is the foundation of running a school, the quality of teaching is our lifeline. So we focus our attention on teaching, regarding the classroom teaching as the core. At the same time, we insist on preparing lessons collectively. Now we take the opportunity of the new curriculum to promote our standard and taste of running a school thoroughly.

    We seize the chance of the construction of new curriculum.

According to the requirements from our country, county and our school itself, we make full use of every curriculum source available to build our own curriculum system which can meet students’ requirements of development from all aspects. In order to ensure the conduction of this system, our school also makes some relative documents.

   Up to now, our school has basically built not only national curriculum, local curriculum but the one of our own school as well. Some teachers in our school wrote many books, some of which are spoken highly of by some famous presses, what’s more, one book is being used by our own students. Meanwhile, our teachers wrote several books according to the condition of our students, so several new courses are taken, such as computer science, appreciation of some English films, the family album of the USA. Not only are teachers busy with their teaching, but the students are absorbed in study. They divide themselves into several groups to explore some subjects they are interested in. Generally speaking, one group has one teacher to guide them. In a year they will present their results. As a result, we have two volumes of the reports from students.

Recently, the Ministry of Education approved the provincial program of college entrance exam. We think this program is very good, which will improve our education for all-round development and build up students’ all-round ability. We always focus our efforts on these aspects, and we did a great job in the last few college entrance exams. Now, we have every reason to believe we can do better in the future.

 

5. Strengthen international communication and broaden our horizons.

In order to broaden our horizons, learn advanced experience and logos and communicate with foreign education and cultures, we think expanding communication with others is the basic and effective way.

Every year, a lot of activities of different levels between cities, provinces and countries about teaching are held in our school. Besides, many scholars and experts come here to make speeches. Meanwhile, many leaders and teachers from other schools come to visit our school or communicate with us. These activities, to some extent, spread our experience of running a school and help us learn a lot from others.

Since 1997, there are over 10 foreign teachers coming to our school, introducing western cultures and language, which has achieved a good effect. There are also over 15 teachers altogether in our school taking part in China-USA teachers exchange program and other international programs. In addition, we have established a good relationship with some foreign schools including a Korean school and two British schools. Every year different exchange programmes are carried out between us. During the programme, students from both countries exchanged different education and cultures . Both teachers and students took an active part in the discussion about cultural differences, educational ideas, teaching practice and customs.
